Bracharia/Brachiaria can be planted from seeds, cuttings or splits. Cuttings are planted in furrows at a depth of about 2 inches. Seedlings are spaced at 25cm by 50 cm.Sprouting starts after a week with enough water or rainfall available. Cuttings also have less labor requirement in planting. You also achieve higher plant population in a given area.
Brachiaria as fodder is recommended for its high protein content, about 19 percent giving better production in milk and growth of livestock. This fact has been proven by many testimonies from farmers who report milk production increase of up to 40 percent. Our farm is located on the Thika Gakoe Naivasha highway at a place called Kamwangi.
