The speeches presented in this volume allow one to see just how much Malcolm X’s thought has been distorted and misrepresented.I always had been under the impression that Malcolm X was rigid in his hatred for the white man, that he unambiguously was opposed to integration of the races,& that he advocated violence in order to achieve his goals. As the material contained in this book makes clear, nothing could be further from the truth on each of these points.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in modern American history, especially those interested in the civil rights era. Malcolm X often was compared and contrasted with Martin Luther King, and the speeches included in this volume provide an excellent platform for such analysis. Probably appropriate only for readers in high school and up. Again, I would have liked to have read these speeches in their entirety,& I also would have been interested in reading more speeches from the period when he was a minister with Nation of Islam
