Job Description for Floor Sander / Finisher Floor sanders/finishers are responsible for sanding and finishing floors so they look their best. They usually work with hardwood and tile floors which may have been newly installed or should be restored to appear more attractive. Floor Sander / Finisher Tasks Apply appropriate finishing techniques to wood and tile floors post-installation. Refinish worn existing flooring, replacing broken parts and checking the integrity of the wood. Apply various sealants and finishing treatments to floors, such as waxes, stains, and varnish. Use power tools and sanding machinery to smooth irregularities and polish wood or tile.

On a daily basis, Floor Sanders and Finishers inspect floors for smoothness. They scrape and sand floor edges and areas inaccessible to floor sanders, using scrapers, disk-type sanders, and sandpaper. One of the main responsibilities as a floor sander and finisher is to guide sanding machines over surfaces of floors until surfaces are smooth. Besides the “typical day” things that Floor Sanders and Finishers do, they remove excess glue from joints, using knives, scrapers, or wood chisels.
