Maize germ is the nutrient-dense embryo of the maize kernel, separated during milling as a high-fat (approx. 50%), high-protein (approx. 13%) byproduct. Primarily used as a high-energy, digestible livestock feed for cattle, pigs, and poultry, it is also processed into corn oil and, due to its high nutrient density, is being explored for human consumption in bakery products and cereals.
