A poker shaft is used to compact fresh concrete by removing trapped air and water, which improves its density and strength. The shaft is part of a poker vibrator, which is inserted into the wet concrete to agitate it, eliminate voids, and allow it to settle into formwork completely. This process results in a more uniform and stronger final product.
