A PLC (Planar Lightwave Circuit) splitter is an optical device that takes one single-mode input fiber and splits the optical signal evenly into eight output fibers.
In the “bare” form the fibers have no connectors (just bare pigtails) and the device comes in a compact tube (or block) form for splicing into the fiber distribution network.
For example: a product described as “1×8 PLC Bare Fiber, Single-mode, 250 μm, no connector” means one input fibre, eight output fibres, each fibre 250 μm diameter, single-mode, no pre-attached connectors.
