Exhaust flex ripple pipes are flexible sections fitted into an exhaust system to absorb vibration, movement, and thermal expansion. The “ripple” refers to the corrugated (wavy) inner pipe that allows bending without breaking.
Key Structure
Most quality flex pipes have 3 layers:
Inner layer (corrugated/ripple tube): handles hot exhaust gases
Middle layer (optional interlock liner): improves strength and smooth airflow
Outer braid (stainless steel mesh): protects and prevents over-expansion
Main Functions
Reduces engine vibration transmitted to exhaust
Prevents cracks in exhaust manifold and pipes
Allows slight movement between engine and exhaust system
Lowers noise and stress on joints
Common Sizes
Typical sizes (inner diameter):
1.5 inch (38mm)
2.0 inch (51mm)
2.5 inch (63mm)
3.0 inch (76mm)
