Desmodium is a high-protein (15–25% CP), nutritious, trailing perennial legume used as premium fodder for dairy and beef cattle. It is a hardy, nitrogen-fixing plant that improves soil fertility, helps control Striga weed, and is ideal for intercropping with Napier or Rhodes grass.
Seed Characteristics: Very small seeds, usually sold with a planting rate of 1-2 kg/ha, or 100g-1kg packets for smaller areas.Seeding Rate & Method: Seeds can be broadcast or planted in shallow rows (less than 1 cm deep).Germination: Can be slow to establish; seeds typically germinate in about 21 days.Establishment: Can also be established using vine cuttings or root splits, with a recommended spacing of 1ft by 1ft.
