Clamp meter is an electrical measuring instrument used to measure electric current without disconnecting or cutting the wire being tested. It combines the functions of a current sensor and, in many models, a digital multimeter.
Description
When the clamp jaws are placed around one conductor, they sense the magnetic field generated by the current. The meter converts this magnetic field into an electrical signal and displays the current value. AC clamp meters typically use a current transformer, while many modern clamp meters can measure both AC and DC current using a Hall-effect sensor.
