Vicryl is a synthetic, absorbable, braided suture made from polyglactin 910. It is widely used for soft tissue approximation and ligation, especially in internal tissues. When paired with a round body (taper point) needle, it is ideal for delicate, soft tissue like muscle, subcutaneous tissue, gastrointestinal, and gynecological procedures, as it spreads tissue without cutting.
Key features:
Absorbable – retains strength for ~2–3 weeks, fully absorbed in ~56–70 days
Braided – excellent knot security and handling
Round body needle – minimizes tissue trauma in soft, delicate tissues
Commonly violet or undyed, depending on visibility needs
