Prong collars, when used correctly, can be an incredibly valuable tool for many handlers when training dogs.
The correct placement of the prong collar is important for safety, control, and appropriate correction. It should never be loose enough to sit low on the dog's neck or slide on or off of their head. The correct placement is high on the dog's neck, preferably just behind the jaw and ears.
In general, a prong collar is most effective when used via corrective leash popping rather than sustained pulling. The release of pressure is important to teach a dog the correct behavior.
The even distribution of pressure across the dog's neck makes a prong collar effective.
