How It Works
The machine has a large, cylindrical tank, which you can see in the image, where the thermoplastic material is heated to a high temperature, typically over 200°C (392°F). Once melted, the liquid material flows through a heated screed box or spray gun, creating a precise and consistent line.
The markings often include tiny glass beads, which can be applied automatically by the machine. These beads become embedded in the hot paint, making the lines reflective at night when hit by headlights.
