Needle bar and needles: Holds and moves one or more needles up and down. The number of needles varies by the type of overlock stitch the machine is designed to create, such as a 2-needle, 4-thread overlock.
Loopers: These are dull, pointed metal parts that move with a definite cycle to grab the needle thread and form interlocking thread loops. Overlock machines have both upper and lower loopers.
Knives (cutting blades): The machine has a stationary lower knife and a moving upper knife that trim the fabric edge before the stitch is formed. The knives can be disengaged on some models if trimming is not desired.
