A Fore Sight (FS) is the last staff reading taken before shifting the level instrument.
It is taken on a point whose elevation (RL) is to be determined, such as a change point (CP) or the final point.
Purpose of Fore Sight
• To find the Reduced Level (RL) of the point
• To close one setup of levelling before moving the instrument
How Fore Sight Reading is Taken
1. After taking BS and any IS readings, place the staff on the last point.
2. Hold the staff vertically.
3. Read the value through the level.
4. This reading is the Fore Sight (FS).
Formula Used
{RL of point} = {Height of Instrument (HI)} - {FS}
