Isoflurane is a volatile halogenated ether anesthetic used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia in human and veterinary medicine. It is a clear, colorless liquid administered via calibrated vaporizers, typically used after intravenous induction due to its pungent odor.
Key Features:
Blood–gas partition coefficient of 1.4 and MAC of 1.2% for humans.
Supplied in amber glass bottles (100 mL or 250 mL).
Use only with vaporizers calibrated for isoflurane.
Store at room temperature (15-30°C) in tight containers; stable over five years.
Risk of malignant hyperthermia, hepatotoxicity, and QT prolongation.
Used in operating rooms for surgical procedures.
