Oil immersion is a microscopy technique used to increase the magnification and resolution of high-power objective lenses, typically 100×, for observing fine details in specimens like bacteria, blood cells, or tissue sections. A special immersion oil with a refractive index similar to glass is applied between the objective lens and the cover glass, reducing light refraction and allowing more light to enter the lens.
