Automatic changeover switches (ATS) are the best way to ensure that you have a continuous supply of power in the same way as a UPS system. They allow you to use one source of power as your primary source and another as a backup. For example:
1. Solar Power as Main Source, KPLC as Backup:
The ATS will automatically & instantly transfer you to KPLC if your solar inverter goes offline-so when the solar inverter goes online again, you will be automatically converted back from KPLC.
2. KPLC as Main Source, Solar as Backup(must be installed inversely):
In the event of a blackout by KPLC, the ATS will automatically and instantly connect you to your solar inverter in order to ensure you have an uninterrupted power supply. When the power from KPLC is restored, you will be transferred back from solar power.
