A jigsaw is a power saw that uses a vertically reciprocating (up-and-down) blade to cut materials along curves, straight lines or complex shapes.
Bosch — originally via an earlier company — helped popularize the modern jigsaw.
Compared with circular saws or table saws, jigsaws are more versatile for irregular cuts, curves, plunge cuts, cutouts, and delicate work (e.g. cabinetry, joinery, laminates, custom shapes).
So: if you need to cut wood, plastic, metal or composite with custom shape, the Bosch jigsaw is often the right tool. But it's not meant for heavy demolition or huge ripping jobs — it excels in versatility, not brute force.
