Guide bar + cutting chain — The metal guide bar and chain with cutting teeth is the core cutting assembly. When the motor runs, the chain spins around the bar at high speed.
Electric motor + battery (or mains connection) — Converts electrical energy to spin the chain. Battery models will have a rechargeable lithium-ion pack; corded models connect to mains.
Chain lubrication / oil reservoir — To reduce friction and wear on the chain/bar, and to allow smoother cutting. Most chainsaws (electric or not) require chain-bar oil.
