Technical Composition & How it Works
NCR paper relies on three distinct chemical layer configurations that react exclusively to the mechanical pressure of a pen or a dot-matrix printer pin:
• CB (Coated Back) Sheet: The top layer (usually white). The reverse side of this sheet is coated with invisible, micro-encapsulated dye or ink capsules.
• CFB (Coated Front and Back) Sheet: The middle layer(s). The front side is treated with a reactive clay, while the back is coated with the dye micro-capsules. A multi-part form can contain multiple CFB layers depending on how many copies are required (e.g., 3-part or 4-part sets).
• CF (Coated Front) Sheet: The bottom layer. The top side is coated with the reactive clay, which acts as the final landing page for the copy.
