There are two primary methods of using these tapes:
Innage Gauging: Measuring the depth of the liquid from the bottom of the tank upwards. The plumb bob touches the bottom, and the tape is reeled up until the liquid level is visible on the tape.
Outage Gauging: Measuring the distance from a reference point at the top of the tank down to the surface of the liquid. This is less common for viscous or opaque liquids.
