On the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W212) (2010–2016) and its platform sibling the W218 CLS-Class, the headlight switch is an electronic command module. Instead of routing high-voltage power directly to your low beams, it communicates via the vehicle's CAN-bus network to tell the Front SAM (Signal Acquisition Module) when to illuminate the lights.
