• Wax-Based Pencils: Softer cores that allow for effortless layering and blending, though they can be prone to wax bloom over time.
• Oil-Based Pencils: Firmer cores that hold a sharp point longer, making them ideal for crisp lines and fine details.
• Water-Soluble Pencils: Specialized variants featuring water-soluble binders that dissolve when brushed with water to create watercolor effects.
Uses & Techniques
• Layering & Blending: Artists build depth by slowly applying multiple translucent layers of color, filling the paper's texture (or tooth) completely.
• Burnishing: Smoothing colors together using a colorless blender or solvent to create seamless transitions and a painted finish.
• Grades: Available in affordable student-grade sets for classrooms as well as highly lightfast, professional-grade sets for archival artwork.
