Chemical Mechanics & How It Works
Instead of using a messy, separate sheet of blue carbon paper, NCR paper relies on a microscopic chemical transfer process activated strictly by physical pressure (from a ballpoint pen or a dot-matrix impact printer):
• Top Sheet – CB (Coated Back): The underside of the first (usually white) sheet is coated with micro-encapsulated dye capsules.
• Middle Sheet(s) – CFB (Coated Front and Back): Used for triplicate or quadruplicate records. The top side features a reactive clay layer, and the bottom side contains the micro-encapsulated dye.
• Bottom Sheet – CF (Coated Front): The top surface of the final sheet is coated with a chemically reactive clay.
